Grateful for Healthy Bodies

With everything going on in our lives I have been feeling a little overwhelmed, so last week my father suggested for me to take some time off and head up to Logan with the Kids to get my mind off of things and to relax. Since we only have one car my dad came on Monday and picked us up. I can't even tell you how excited I was to take this trip, for me it was going to be Heaven! I decided that the day he picked us up that I would scour my house from top to bottom, so when I came home Thursday it would be spotless. By the time he came I had successfully done just that, but I was wiped out.

We headed up to Logan. Everett and Harry in the back and me and my dad reminiscing of old times in the front while Everett told us his 'Once upon a Time, Far away stories.' As we got to my childhood home I was reminded of how lucky I was to grow up there. After some delicious roasted vegetable soup and salad (my mom is an amazing cook, just ask Jack)  The boys and I would be staying up stairs so I made a nice little bed for Everett on the floor and set up Harry's port-a-crib, I laid them down...ahhh...success, they fell asleep. I crept down stairs and  settled down in front of the fire and watched mystery shows with my family (they introduced me to 'White Collar' love it). As the night wound down I said 'GoodNight' and went up stairs to join my little ones. Little did I know this would be the first night of a lot of sleepless nights.
I was awakened at about 1:00 am by Harry wanting to get out of his bed so I put him in with me knowing very well that I would not sleep until he was out of my bed, but I let him lay there until I heard his deep rhythmic breathing. I laid him down and jumped back into my bed, I had barely shut my eyes when Everett got up and for some reason he would not go to bed. So, long story short I wound up with both boys in my bed (I was on a single bed) and by the time the sun came up I had maybe got 3 hrs. of sleep.
That next day (Tuesday) Everett started to throw-up and that continued all day long. Poor guy, no wonder he was up so much the night before, he had the flu. Then talking with Jack he also was sick and luckily was spending the next few nights at his parents. He had the flu pretty bad, with high fevers and nausia. I was so sad I couldn't be there to nurse him back to health, but at least he had his mom.
That night I decided to not sleep in the same room as the boys so they wouldn't be tempted to get in bed with me, so I slept on the couch. Big mistake, I didn't sleep.
The next day (wednesday) I awoke with a grade 10 headache and in my book they only go to a 10, it was probably due to exhaustion. But I thought 'this is my last full day here I don't want to spend it inside'. Despite the headache I was able to spend some time with my adorable sister Rebekah and help her Organize her school work, then I went and sat in at my mother and sisters choir rehearsal. My dad offered to watch the boys for the night so I had my dear friend Marnie pick me up and  I spent the evening at her house talking, laughing, and eating incredibly good food that she kept making me. I arrived home at 10:30 to find that Harry had been throwing up the entire time I had been gone. Flu. He continued to throw up through the night. By morning he was smiling and had color in his face. Whew.
I had not slept since sunday night and I had, had enough. I ate breakfast and as luck would have it I too began my turn of the flu. I told my mom to just get me home. So as she drove me home I threw up lets just say many many times. We got to my house my mother fed my children and bathed them and reluctantly had to leave. I called jack who then called our neighbor who came and got my boys, this flu was vicious. Jack works late on Thursdays and the earliest he could get home and to pick the boys up was at 9:00 pm. That night was awful, couldn't keep anything down, worrying about my baby and the exhaustion of throwing up close to 50 times in 12 hrs was taking its toll on my body. By morning, I was able to slowly sip liquids and again my neighbor took my boys so I could rest.
I know, honestly not what I was expecting for my vacation, but sometimes life is so unpredictable.   We all got the Flu and are stronger for it. It sure makes you appreciate your health.  Crazy week, lets just say we survived.

Wow, that was sad to read all of you and the Flu. Yuck! I know what you mean it making you stonger in some crazy way, it does. Meg has RSV and it's awful. Her cough is fierce & the poor thing has to use a nebulizer to breath. Being sick certainly has its way of humbling us. Man you guys had a bad Flu year last year too, right? Sorry. Being pregnant and sick really sucks. At least your house was clean when you got home!! My Mom and sister live in Cache Valley as well. Love it there.

Wow...that sounds like quite a vacation. Hope you are all better now. Hey, I have a white crib with a fleur de lis pattern if you would like it. It is just sitting in the basement. We are not going to use it for our son!

Sarah, please email me your phone number so we can find a time to bring you the crib.
