On Wednesday the 2nd of June our dear little Jane was born.
Sarah Jane Roberts
7lbs. 5oz
20 inches long
(Mom and Jane seconds old)
Here's the story: I had been uncomfortable and having sporadic contractions since the Friday before. By Tuesday morning we had a false alarm and after walking around the hospital for an hour they sent me home. The most disheartening part of all of that was that I was still dilated to a 2+ ( they added that + to make me feel better). So, considering this was VBAC, I had to be patient and let my body do its thing. Later that day around 6 pm I started to have extremely painful contractions. For fear I would be sent home again I waited it out until 2 in the morning at which time I told Jack to grab the kids and get me to the hospital.
Jack dropped me off and they admitted me at about 2:45 am. After many painful contractions they gave me my epidural, and to my surprise I was still dilated to a 2+, but now I was much more comfortable and didn't really mind. So, Jack and a I got a few hours of sleep and by 7:00 am there was very little change except that my cervix was really soft (thank you Melanie it was that amazing oil). At that rate they anticipated me going into labor around 1:00 in the afternoon. It was now 9:00 and the nurse had just checked my status and told me I was almost to a 4. Awesome. Seeing how we would be waiting a while Jack decided to go and grab some breakfast at the cafeteria.
I was relaxed, content, calm watching a show when I felt some pressure. So, I called the nurse in and she made some comment along the lines of "It's probably the catheter." As she checked me she got wide eyed and announced that I was at a 10 and the baby's head was an inch from coming out! She asked where Jack was and no sooner did those words escape her mouth when he walked in the door. "I forgot my wallet," he announced. The nurse replied, "Good, your wife is about to have a baby!" I have never seen Jack so shocked. They called in the doctor who barely had time to throw on some gloves because Jane's head was now a quarter of the way out. I gave one push and there she was! (I know, hate me if you must. But really if you heard my previous two delivery stories you'd know I deserved this one. Also, no stitches.) There she was - perfect. Words can't express our love for this little girl. She is everything lovely and girly. We are so happy she is here.
